Land Acknowledgement
The Thinkery Project is situated on the traditional and ancestral territories of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat Peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Today, Toronto is covered under Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties.
In acknowledging this land, we recognize and honour the histories and cultures of Indigenous Peoples. We raise awareness. We have an opportunity to reflect on ongoing issues - a result of systemic and systematic oppression through discriminatory practices and disregard for Indigenous rights, traditions, and knowledge. We acknowledge our vulnerability in unlearning and learning about these matters to understand how we can act to break the cycle of colonial culture that benefits from and has overseen the genocide and exploitation of Indigenous Peoples for far too long.
